Malls

2025, Daniel Tune, 60 mins

Synopsis
Lou and Noodles are consumers. Adrift and empty, they are separate from each other and from the world. Ruled by desire and un controllable drives to excess, they spend their solitary hours in spaces both real and unreal. Occasionally, they are in the same part of the mall.

A deeply personal evocation of the alienation of consumer spaces and the loneliness that late capitalism both creates and feeds on, MALLS is a lament for a culture that is most alive in its doomed attempts to escape itself. Drawing equal inspiration from Tsai Ming-liang, the early work of John Waters, and the inevitable online brain-rot of its young creators, the film is a micro-budget testament to making your own fun in a world of fading possibility.
